PHYSIOTHERAPY
A widely recognized health care profession.
Physiotherapy is a healing method based on active and/or passive movements, as well as therapeutically applied manual techniques, for the treatment of acute and chronic dysfunctions and pathologies.
It uses the manifold adaptation mechanisms of our body to prevent overload and injury and supports its natural healing powers. In doing so, it is not only a complementary but oftentimes very effective and serious alternative to different forms of medication and surgical interventions.
Clinical Reasoning.
Specific physiotherapy.
Based on their clinical reasoning and therapeutic experience, physiotherapists carry out their treatment adapted to the patient's abilities, which often aims for a reduction or complete freedom of pain and tries to restore or improve the body's functionality.
Additionally, meaningful pedagogical and psychological approaches by the therapist have a beneficial effect on the emotional experience of disease and movement behaviors of the patient and contribute to the success of the treatment.
Application of physiotherapy in orthopedics and traumatology.
Orthopedic and traumatological conditions treated by physiotherapists include injuries of ligaments, tendons, and muscles, fractures, osteoarthritis, joint replacements (endoprosthesis), spine disorders (e.g. scoliosis, herniated disc, spinal canal stenosis), joint surgeries (arthroscopy), and amputations.
In sports medicine, physiotherapists work on the prevention and/or treatment of sports injuries, as well as the rehabilitation and therapeutic monitoring of recreational and competitive athletes.
The implementation of physiotherapy in neurology and internal medicine.
Neurological physiotherapy involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated in the nervous system, such as brain strokes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's syndrome, spinal cord, and traumatic brain injuries, or nerve lesions.
In internal medicine, both respiratory physiotherapy (for the treatment of lung diseases) and cardiovascular physiotherapy (for the treatment of circulatory and vascular diseases) play a primary role in health care.
